Household waste and refuse collection services are now controlled by Cornwall Council. The former district councils had contracts with waste management companies or provided services themselves. These contracts have a varying number of years to run and their management will be transferred to the Cornwall Council over time. A kerbside recycling collection service is offered to every household and this can be used to recycle over 40% of waste.
Cornwall Scrap Store is a fantastic resource, stocking an amazing range of interesting, unusual and unique materials and products, which can be used in art, craft and play activities for all ages. They collect this valuable 'scrap' from businesses around the county and rescue it from being dumped in local landfill sites, making it available to their members - absolutely free! Open to schools, nurseries, play-schemes, community groups, pensioners groups, carnival committees, youth groups, scouts, church groups, village halls, parent and toddler groups, sports clubs, charities, students, families and even individuals. They also have wallpaper, paint, tiles, carpet, fabrics and much more. There's a low annual membership fee. Also in St Austell.
Cornwall Waste Action is involved in a range of project activity. Projects and partnerships include composting, beachcleans, local food growing, capacity building and the Community Waste Art Project. It also provides consultancy services for the public and private sector as well as third sector organisations and civil society groups. Rose Farm is a beautiful, peaceful, country setting in which to be buried. A tree is planted on every grave and this, in turn, helps the environment and provides habitat for birds and many species of wild life. The full circle of life. Rose Farm has been a farm since Iron Age times and in adjacent fields you will find cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, ducks, geese, and hens - happy animals that create a feeling that the place is all about life, as well as death. The Pets’ Memorial Gardens which also exists at Rose Farm was established in 1988. Human burials have taken place there since 2000.
The Penzance recycle group was set up in August 2006 as Penzance Freecycle and moved to the umbrella organisation, Freegle, in September 2009. It covers Lands End to Penzance and the general surrounding area up to the borders of the Hayle/St Ives Freegle group. The Penzance Freegle group is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Local non-profit groups are also welcome to participate too. Everything posted must be free and keeping something out of landfill.

SAS protects the health of recreational water users from sewage polluted water. Scientific studies have consistently highlighted that those using beaches, lakes or rivers forsports are most at risk of falling sick from an illness associated with sewage polluted water. They are also seeking improvements to the combined sewer overflow (CSOs) systems that pollute recreational waters all too frequently, usually after heavy rainfall. Much of current investment has ignored or disregarded the impacts of climate change, in particular changing weather patterns that will result in increased flows of water into and out of the sewage works without treatment because there is not enough capacity to store the sewage.

They bulk sell: woodchips for outdoor events, mulch for landscaping schemes; and sawdust bedding for agricultural animals. Also bulk compost for gardens, sports fields and agriculture
