Transtion Penwith - A positive start to 2009!

Transition Penwith held their first Annual General Meeting on Sunday 01 February 2009.   At the AGM Stuart Walker Chairperson of Transition Penwith gave his report (find the full report attached).  Stuart gave those in attendance an update of what Transition Penwith has achieved since it's inception in October 2006 and how far the organisation has come over the past 2 years.  Stuart Walker informed the AGM of Transition Penwith's financial accounts.

We recieved one nomination for both Chairperson and Treasurer, therefore no vote was required and Stuart Walker was re-elected for both positions.  This means that we still have a vacany for a Sectretary - if you are interested, please contact us.

We recieved nominations from representatives of the themed groups to sit on the Core Group.  This ensures a clear line of communication and transparency between the main decision making body and the groups and projects.  The following were elected:

Education Group  - Dax Ansell, Energy Group - Piers Guys, Transport Group - Stuart Walker, Food and Agriculture Group - Jane Michell and Health and Well-Being - Colin Curbishley.

We had 30+ people attend the AGM and Winter Celebration, reaching new people who had either never heard or attended a Transition Penwith event before.  There was a fantastic buzz, with people networking, having fun and sharing ideas and suggestions for future projects.

A graffiti wall was used for those who attended to offer ideas and questions.  Suggestions included:

  • Organise Clothes swap parties - You can take/swap your clothes wardrobe for someone else's - all the unwanted clothes could be given to charity shops, put on Freecycle, or re-fashioned (make it into something else).
  • Support St Erth which is creating a great Community and Friendship through a Farmers Market.  This encouraged the local shop to include local veg./bread etc).  They also have craft groups, involved with Sure Start, knitting circles and hopefully will be planting Fruit Trees soon!
  • Present Transition Penwith into the whole community - get out into the community holding presentations and events, put leaflets through doors.
  • Practical events that give people an alternative way i.e. Clothes Swap option.
  • A 'please take' shelf in community buildings.
  • More marketing of Transition Penwith in the newspapers and on TV.

At the event, those in attendance were shown our new website and our new constitution.  To read the constitution, please click here to view.

Thank you to everyone that was able to attend this event.  We put a press release into the Cornishman, please have a read.
