Fibre coming to a Cabinet near you soon

Superfast Cornwall's schedule for PenwithSuperfast Cornwall's schedule for PenwithSuperfast Cornwall is the organisation which is charged with installing a fibre optic communications network in Cornwall. When sent as pulses of laser light down thin glass fibres signals travel faster than when they are transmitted as electrical pulses down copper wires. There are a number of ways of perceiving the technology of the internet and the World Wide Web. Some may see it as the work of the devil and just the latest incarnation of the go-faster world where people demand and get everything now. In other ways the Web has contributed hugely to the democratisation of communication and has become an invaluable way of spreading new ideas and different ways of doing things ... all with very low energy cost. On a very mundane level web-based communication has the potential to reduce the need for people to physically travel from place-to-place and the resulting drop in energy use can only be a good thing. High speed broadband access should accentuate this trend so it is something to be applauded.

Fears for future of Photovoltaic Industry

Sign the e-petitionSign the e-petitionSolar power companies have been left in chaos as customers clamour to get their installations fully operational before the current feed in tariff rate drops to 21p/kWh. The government's latest proposals will see the Feed in Tariff scheme, FITs, cut by more than half on December 12, 2011. Customers who had been hoping to take advantage of the current 43.3p/kWh are now finding themselves in a busy queue to get their install fitted and accredited by the looming cut-off date.

Operations manager, Billy Dalton, from Plug into the Sun said: "It's appalling the way they (the government) have treated the industry and people in the industry." Billy said that Plug into the Sun was prioritising existing customers and doing what they could to bring the installation dates forward in order to meet the deadline.

"If we can bring in extra labour so that we can continue to deliver the level of service that we are renowned for, then we will," he added.
