Paul Mobbs is an independent consultant, researcher and writer on energy, environment and low impact technology. The 'Energy Beyond Oil' presentation is a basic, beginner's guide to the issues of energy consumption in the UK, climate change, peak oil and resource depletion. This is a visual presentation and discussion as the event outlines the scale and complexity of the issues we face, globally as well as within the UK, as the human species reaches the limits of the Earth's environmental capacity.
The Energy Beyond Oil presentation is a 'beginners' guide to energy in the UK. It covers:
o The global flow of energy, both natural and human.
o The global perspective.
o The historical and current energy consumption in the UK to understand not only the scale of different energy sources (oil, gas, coal, nuclear and renewable), but how that energy is used by different parts of society (power generation, homes, industry, etc.).
o The issue of peak oil and gas.
o Renewable energy sources.
o Will look at the “average” house to show that cuts in consumption are not unrealistic if we re-design how we live.
o There will then be a time for discussion/questions and answer session.
