Conflict Resolution and Clear Communication Skills Training
Marina Sala and Conflict Resolution PosterMany people ask what the transition movement is trying to transition towards. The answer is: a more resilient way of life that, almost certainly, will be more locally based. It’s likely that, in the future, fuel will be scarcer and travel a lot more expensive and the upshot of this is that we’ll all have to get on a lot better with people in our own locality. Running away from conflict will no longer be a possible solution and our survival may well depend on good relations with immediate neighbours. It’s for this reason that Transition Penwith sees conflict resolution as important.
Learning to manage conflicts is the same as learning to recycle waste. Like some waste, aspects of conflict can be transformed into something new; they can bring positive change and abundant learning. Much like recycling, we need to learn to divide the issues in conflict between ‘organic’ and ‘non-organic’. We need to identify our assumptions and triggers and distinguish between needs and wants. With this knowledge, we can consider alternatives of behaviour and ways of clear communication that bring about mutual understanding and beneficial outcomes through problem-solving.
Conflict Resolution skills empower us to have a drama-free life and to build stronger community relations, at work, in our family environment, with friends, or in the larger community.
Transition Penwith will be hosting two training events, led by experienced facilitator, Marina Sala. Marina has studied Conflict Resolution at PhD level, has taught Conflict Resolution in schools and is a trained Mediator.
Saturday 12th February: Taster day in Conflict Resolution Theory and Practice. Cost £40 per person.
Saturday 26th – 27th February: Weekend Training for those who have done the taster and would like to go deeper into the practices. Cost: £100 per person.
Both events will be held at St. Mary’s Hall in Sancreed (opposite the church).
Places are limited to 15 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
