You may not want to hear what she has to say but you won’t regret that you heard it ... and your future decision-making may well depend upon it!
The bar will be open from 7pm. Please come early to join us for some social time and to learn about Transition Penwith, money and localisation.

The Work that Reconnects

Time:
27 March 2011 - 9:30am - 6:00pm
Location:
Sancreed House, Sancreed, Penzance TR20 8QS

Work that Reconnects posterWork that Reconnects posterAnnouncing a rare and exciting opportunity, Jane Hera, renowned trainer and facilitator is coming to Penwith to run a day long workshop of Joanna Macy's The Work that Reconnects.

The Work that Reconnects is a pioneering form of group work that began in the 1970s. It demonstrates our interconnectedness in the web of life and our authority to take action on its behalf. It has helped many thousands around the globe find insight, solidarity and courage to act despite worsening conditions. Based on living systems theory, spiritual teachings and deep ecology its methods are described in “Coming Back to Life” the book Joanna Macy wrote with Molly Young Brown. The exercises and rituals we will share in this one day workshop draw out feelings of concern for the state of the world, fostering compassionate action as an antidote to numbness and paralysis. This is a highly experiential workshop.

Committee Room 1, St Clare, Penzance TR18 3QW

Marvellous Meetings posterMarvellous Meetings posterHow to have enjoyable and inclusive meetings

This workshop offers a set of simple, easy-to-learn methods that can be used to increase productivity, participation and enjoyment in many different everyday situations from work meetings to family meals. They need very little preparation and they work!

So whether you work for a business, belong to a community group, represent constituents on a council, or are a parent, you can come out of meetings feeling inspired, excited, with a sense of achievement and clarity about your next steps. The methods work because they are designed for inclusion - so that everyone at a meeting has a real chance to participate and develop a sense of ownership of the outcomes of the meeting.

The methods used include “Thinking Contracts”. When employed during meeting time these ensure the best use is made both of time and each person's best thinking.

“Open and Visible Agendas” ensure that all members of a team or organisation have a vested interest in the agenda as it is processed throughout the meeting.

“Check Ins” and “Go Rounds” ensure that all voices are heard and enhance the enjoyment experienced by participants.

This workshop will enable you to plan and run marvellous meetings in all areas of your life.

John Stauber, author of ‘Toxic Sludge Is Good For You’

“The next few decades aren’t going to look like the last few - not at all. And the sooner we come to terms with that, the better. This documentary is a good place to start.”

Conflict Resolution and Clear Communication Skills Training

Time:
12 February 2011 - 9:30am - 5:00pm
Location:
St. Mary’s Hall, Sancreed (opposite the church)

Marina Sala and Conflict Resolution PosterMarina Sala and Conflict Resolution PosterMany people ask what the transition movement is trying to transition towards. The answer is: a more resilient way of life that, almost certainly, will be more locally based. It’s likely that, in the future, fuel will be scarcer and travel a lot more expensive and the upshot of this is that we’ll all have to get on a lot better with people in our own locality. Running away from conflict will no longer be a possible solution and our survival may well depend on good relations with immediate neighbours. It’s for this reason that Transition Penwith sees conflict resolution as important.

Learning to manage conflicts is the same as learning to recycle waste. Like some waste, aspects of conflict can be transformed into something new; they can bring positive change and abundant learning. Much like recycling, we need to learn to divide the issues in conflict between ‘organic’ and ‘non-organic’. We need to identify our assumptions and triggers and distinguish between needs and wants. With this knowledge, we can consider alternatives of behaviour and ways of clear communication that bring about mutual understanding and beneficial outcomes through problem-solving.
Conflict Resolution skills empower us to have a drama-free life and to build stronger community relations, at work, in our family environment, with friends, or in the larger community.

Transition Penwith will be hosting two training events, led by experienced facilitator, Marina Sala. Marina has studied Conflict Resolution at PhD level, has taught Conflict Resolution in schools and is a trained Mediator.

Could Money Grow on Trees?

Time:
20 January 2011 - 7:30pm - 10:30pm
Location:
Lugger Hotel, 3 Marine Terrace, Penzance TR18 4DL

Could Money Grow on Trees?Could Money Grow on Trees? Are you worried about money? Do you want to find out how to feel more financially secure? Are you interested in the current economic climate?

Then come to this Transition Penwith event on January 20th.

You don't even have to pay cash to get in, we are asking for folk to barter with us - that is to bring something of value to "pay" for entry to the event. Barter is a method of exchange by which goods or services are directly exchanged for other goods or services without using a medium of exchange, such as money. You could bring goods ... some home-grown veg or home-made jam; or services ... a "promise" of a massage, cleaning or childcare for example.

This event is designed to challenge and play with people's ideas of what money is, what it is worth and how much we need it. The evening will be fun and informative, people may even go home feeling richer than when they came!

Please print it out, display it and invite all your friends. See you there at 7.30pm on the evening of Thursday January 20th at The Lugger, 3 Marine Terrace, Penzance TR18 4DL.

"Be the Change" Symposium for Transition Penwith Members

Time:
10 October 2010 - 9:45am - 5:00pm
Location:
Penzance

People involved in and interested in Transition Penwith came to a Be The Change Symposium to mark the day: 10/10/10

10-10-1010-10-10

‘A day to explore how we can use the current environmental and global crisis, as an opportunity to revision our situation and move into inspired action.’

The day used a dynamic blend of group process, inspiring film footage, group discussion and personal reflection and we delved, together, into the biggest challenges and opportunities facing us globally and locally. In the second half of the day there was opportunity for visioning, bringing our own passions and gifts to the table and getting into action. People certainly left with a sense of grounded hope, renewed commitment and strengthened community.

The event was part of the 10/10/10 Global Work Party, the world's largest day of action to fight the climate crisis, and to celebrate climate solutions. Coordinated by 350.org and 1010global.org events were happening all over the planet, in almost every county, including hundreds of 'Be The Change's!

Thanks to David Smart Knight, David Rose (and Anna de Vere in absentia) for giving their time and energy. More information about "Be the Change" from bethechangecornwall@gmail.com
